Corporate Events: Upstate Style

When I moved to Greenville in 2008, I didn’t realize how much the Upstate had to offer. Not only are there wonderful restaurants that rival the Charleston and Atlanta foodie scene, but there are large international companies, such as Milliken, Michelin, Fluor, and BMW, headquartered here. We are fortunate to work with some of those companies and many more around the Southeast.

At VantagePoint, we occasionally help our clients plan events and other outings for a variety of occasions. We have helped pull together campaign launches, sales meetings, trade shows, plant tours, open houses, and more. When planning a large event, it can sometimes be hard to select the best venue, create a catchy theme, order a meal that pleases the masses, schedule activities that are fun for everyone, etc. For those who are looking to host a corporate event in the Upstate, here are some different venue ideas that are sure to please:

Day at the Track

width=A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon at the BMW Performance Driving School and experience first-hand the power of 500 hp. Located just a few miles north of Greenville, BMW USA invested $12 million to create the Performance Center. This facility hosts educational classes and exhilarating driving courses for every type of driver. While test driving an X5, M3 and 135i is extremely entertaining, the great thing about the facility is that it can host over a hundred people for all types of events and corporate outings. They have a chef on location – the food is quite tasty might I add – and several meeting rooms that can be used for breakout business sessions. Take a look into the different corporate event options BMW USA has to offer at its Performance Center.

Wine + Food + Music = Euphoria

width=Created in 2006 by singer and songwriter Edwin McCain and restaurateur Carl Sobocinski, Euphoria is an annual four-day event that combines the art of food, wine and music. I’ve also had the pleasure of attending this event and even had the chance to see celebrity chef Tyler Florence – star of several Food Network shows. In addition to celebrity chefs, Euphoria draws master sommeliers, international wines, and national recording artists. From exclusive tasting events and cooking demonstrations, to wine seminars and live musical performances, there is something for everyone. This is a great event to take potential clients, current customers or even top salespeople to. For more information about Euphoria, visit www.euphoriagreenville.com.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame (and downtown)

width=Located right off Main Street in downtown Greenville, the Drive stadium, also know as Fluor Field, is an excellent venue to entertain groups of any size. A Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, Fluor Field is a replica of Fenway Park, complete with its own “Green Monster” and manual scoreboard. In the stadium, you will find several food and beverage options. After the game, there are several restaurants and entertainment options within walking distance or a short car ride. Additionally, there are several lodging options nearby for out-of-town guests. Click here for the season schedule and group outing information.

There are many things to consider when planning a corporate event. Overall, there are many factors that will have to be considered before selecting a venue. What is the objective of the event? What are you trying to communicate? How many people will be there? What is the budget? What is the timeframe? What are the interests of the attendees? What does success look like? All of these questions will help you get on the right track. After they are answered, then you are ready to analyze venue options.

This is just a short list of places to hold unique events in the Upstate. Please let me know if you have other venue recommendations in the area.
