Simple Twitter tip for retweet success

What does it take to be retweeted? According to a recent article in Public Relations Tactics, 70 percent of retweets contain a link. Including a link is one way to increase the likelihood that your message will be retweeted. Another way to increase your visibility is to include specific words, such as nouns and third person verbs.

Here are the top ten most retweetable words:

  1. you
  2. Twitter
  3. please
  4. retweet
  5. post
  6. blog
  7. social
  8. free
  9. media
  10. help

Top ten least retweetable words:

  1. game
  2. going
  3. haha
  4. lol
  5. but
  6. watching
  7. work
  8. home
  9. night
  10. bed

What do these words tell us? Don’t talk about yourself all the time. Talk about others and ask for people to retweet. People don’t care if you are going to bed. No one is going to retweet that to their followers. Also, don’t include internet slang and abbreviations like LOL and haha.

Instead, give helpful advice by linking to one of the following: a breaking news story, a helpful article, an insightful blog post, or something relevant to your industry. If you have something free to offer, that will get others’ attention. Using these simple tips will help increase your Twitter success and ROI.
